The Times They Are A-Changin’
A Dylan Oratorio
And now for something completely different… a newly commissioned work, which premiered in 2018, presenting the music of Bob Dylan… with a twist.
The SVC joined a consortium to commission composer Steven Hackman to write A Dylan Oratorio. The result is an amazing work featuring some of Dylan’s most popular songs.
The chorale will be accompanied by a chamber ensemble with the talents of musicians our audience has grown to love.
If the music isn’t inspiring enough, the venue will add excitement as well. The Rusty Rail Brewing Company is fast becoming an entertainment ‘hot spot’. A micro brewery with award winning craft beer, a full service restaurant and a live concert setting.
To top off your musical adventure experience, through the generosity of sponsor Bernadine Richard and her family, pieces of her late husband’s private collection of Dylan memorabilia will be offered via a silent auction, including an original painting of Bob Dylan. All proceeds will benefit the Susquehanna Valley Chorale.
This concert is definitely an event you won’t want to miss and will certainly leave you knockin’ on heaven’s door.
The event will also feature a cash bar, gourmet snacks, and a very special silent auction.
ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Composer, conductor, and songwriter Steven Hackman is a uniquely talented artist who has conducted major orchestras, written and produced pop albums, and composed and conducted choral works. He has created the major orchestra/vocal mash-ups Brahms vs. Radiohead, Beethoven vs. Coldplay, and most recently, Tchaikovsky vs. Drake. Of the latest mash-up, Black Girl Fly Magazine wrote: “…pure culturally infused, artistic, barrier breaking bliss. If this becomes the new music wave, I hope it never, ever dies.”
The SVC Board voted to join a consortium to commission Steven Hackman to write A Dylan Oratorio. It’s an approximately 30-35 minute choral setting of several of the Nobel Prize-winning songwriter’s most iconic songs including Like A Rolling Stone, The Times They Are A-Changing, Blowin’ in the Wind, and Mr. Tambourine Man.
ABOUT THE VENUE
At Rusty Rail, our mission is to create a destination in Mifflinburg that the whole town can be proud of, and to pay tribute to the generations of hard-working families that have built our community. Mifflinburg was not built around a college, tourism, a hospital or any other unique attraction; it was hugely affected by the railroad and built by hard-working men and women through industry and agriculture.
In our brewpub, we strive to create a world class dining experience that celebrates Mifflinburg’s past while providing excellent craft beer, bold food, live music and customer service in a one-of-a-kind dining atmosphere. As Pennsylvania’s largest brewpub, we offer a one-of-a-kind dining atmosphere that includes several hand-painted murals and restored Ford trucks from the early 1900s that were built in our building. The first level of our brewpub features our main bar, main dining area, All Seasons Room and our outdoor Beer Garden with Bavarian-style beer tables and a rustic, gas forge fireplace. The second level of our brewpub houses our Game Room, complete with 1923 Brunswick pool tables, shuffleboard, foosball, darts, video game tables, board games, six big-screen TVs and another full-service bar. This room also features an impressive trophy collection of wild game mounts from all over the world.
We know that if our building could talk it would speak of rugged workers who got by on the determination in their hearts, the strength of their backs and the dirt on their hands. We proudly dedicate every ounce of our beer to those whose efforts have forged the American work ethic. So grab a cold one and pay tribute to the past by making the most of the present!

ABOUT THE SILENT AUCTION
Through the generosity of a very gracious donor, this event will showcase a silent auction featuring memorabilia from a private Bob Dylan collection, including an original, one-of-a-kind painting, as seen below. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Susquehanna Valley Chorale to help fund our mission of inspiring a love of great choral singing.
Various items will be on display prior to both performances, and the bidding will close at the end of intermission, with the winners being announced before the second half of the program begins.
