Singer Spotlight: Marvin Rudnitsky

March 2020

What is/was your occupation?

Attorney, mostly retired now. This means I’m still working but don’t get paid. Most of my work is pro bono for non-profits.

How many years have you been singing with the SVC?

Since 1974. I sang a POPS Concert duet with Coleen Renshaw that year, I think.

What was your favorite concert or chorale season to date, and why?

So hard to say. Carmina Burana was a personal challenge. I was so proud of the chorale for its mastery of the music.

Do you have any other musical involvements?

I sing tenor in my church senior choir along with fellow chorale member Michael Zettlemoyer. Wonderful chorale soprano Amy Caron, my daughter, is the director.

Do you have any other family members involved with SVC or SVYC?

Amy Caron, and my granddaughter, Maya Caron, who sings with the SVYC.

Wow, so this is really a family affair. That must be very special to share that kind of bond and experience together.

Yes it is. Amy joined the chorale when she was only 14 years old and Cyril Stretansky was SVC Music Director. It was something father and daughter could do together until she went off to college and graduate school. Her voice matured and her skills grew. Once she returned to Selinsgrove, we resumed our Tuesday night trips to SVC rehearsals. It’s such a joy to watch her perform solos for the chorale. Granddaughter Maya has become an very accomplished singer too. Now we have three generations singing together in some concerts. I’m one very lucky guy.
